Plot of the series Ekaterina (Season 3) Impostors
The series is set in 1774. Having come to power through a palace coup, Catherine provoked not only a precedent for the violent seizure of power, but also a rise in discontent among the people, which significantly increased as serfdom became more severe.
This gave rise to a whole wave of peasant revolts and uprisings, which were led by various kinds of impostors who claimed to be the legitimate heirs to the throne.
One of these impostors, the fugitive Don Cossack Yemelyan Pugachev, who called himself emperor Peter III, assembled a large army in the Urals and, capturing one city after another, rapidly approached the capital.
All this happened during the war with Turkey, and Catherine could not yet deploy troops to fight the impostor. After all, significant forces were on the Turkish front.

And finally, a conspiracy is brewing in Catherine’s palace itself: her closest adviser, Count Panin, is calculating options for transferring power to her son, Tsarevich Pavel Petrovich.
But, squeezed from four sides, Catherine does not give in and does not retreat. She brilliantly plays on the contradictions of the various opposing sides, making unexpected and at the same time brilliant moves. Which allowed her not only to preserve and strengthen her power, but also to go down in history as Catherine the Great...
