The plot of the movie Stovepipes (movie 1972):

The movie is set in the early 70s of the last century in a small village in Altai. Ivan Sergeevich Rastorguev, a tractor driver, received a trip to a resort in the collective farm. On this solemn occasion, in the evening, Ivan threw a fancy banquet, which was attended by all the fellow villagers of the tractor-driver.

And in the morning, having had enough, the collective farmers took Ivan and his wife Nyura to the city, straight to the train. The further action of the movie takes place on the train. Ivan, an untutored country man, immediately becomes an object of ridicule for his compartment mate, a business traveler, an intellectual with glasses.

Offended by his neighbor's barbs, Ivan started a quarrel with him, forcing the intellectual to move to another compartment. Ivan, who is sociable and good-natured, gets acquainted with a young man and invites him to his compartment.

The man introduced himself as Victor, a designer of railroad lines. Ivan and Nyura immediately liked the cheerful and sociable Victor. The designer opened his suitcase and took out a bottle of cognac, offering Ivan a drink to their acquaintance.

In addition, he gave Nyura a fashionable blouse, impressing the villagers with his generosity. But at the first stop, a former neighbor of the Rostorguevs, who had not forgotten his grudge against Ivan, called a police sergeant on the train to curb the "hooligan".

Victor managed to settle the incident, but immediately afterwards the designer took his suitcase and left the compartment, telling Ivan and Nyura that he was going to visit his old friend, who worked on the train as a conductor. A few minutes later, the train brakes sharply, and it is the "constructor", who, after the meeting with the police, was not on a joke frightened, tore off the stop-cock, and jumped out of the train.

A few minutes later, police officers burst into the compartment to Rastorguevs, they are looking for a master thief-recidivist ... Realizing that he may be an accomplice to the crime, naive Ivan concerned about the blouse, which gave his wife "constructor" tries to destroy the evidence in the toilet.

But the investigator, having questioned the Rastorguevs as witnesses, let them go in peace. The next traveling companion of the four collective farmers was an elderly gray-haired man who introduced himself as a professor of linguistics, who collected ditties, sayings, etc. in the Russian countryside.

But Ivan and Nyura were confused by the professor's yellow suitcase, exactly like the one the "designer" had. And when the professor said that he was carrying a pood of gold in it, the Rastorguevs became quite alarmed. Seeing that the spouses were extremely hostile to him, the professor invited a conductor into the compartment, who explained to the frightened collective farmers that it was really Professor Stepanov from Moscow.

Soon they became friends, and Stepanov, who liked these people, not spoiled by the sinful city life, invites them to Moscow to visit and see the capital.

Having had a good time in Moscow, the Rastorguevs finally go to the sea, but even here the naive collective farmers are in for a surprise: the head doctor of the sanatorium was very surprised when he found out that Ivan, who is entitled to one bed on the voucher, brought his wife with him. The foremost tractor driver has to go to a "grave" crime - to give a bribe to an official, but as it turned out that the world is still full of good people....
