In the Soviet Union, they did not make TV series in the form that we are accustomed to today. After all, a classic TV series is a series of TV programs with an open (no "final point") or partially completed plot. In the USSR, these were rather multi-part TV films usually consisting of a large number of episodes and having a completed plot with a strong connection between episodes. The first Soviet TV series, "Calling Fire on Yourself," was released on TV screens in 1964.

The longest-running series, "Eternal Call" (19 episodes), was released in 1973. Initially, the series was planned to consist of twelve episodes, but in 1983, due to persistent requests from workers, seven more episodes were filmed. Nowadays, this would be called "Season 2". However, this concept came to Russia from America only in the early 2000s, and was not used in Soviet times.

And the USSR did not film TV series by seasons, although people often asked for it. For example, such a story happened with one of the best Soviet TV series, “Seventeen Moments of Spring.” However, this idea arose towards the end of the Soviet period, and it was only possible to implement it in the form of a radio play.
