Plot of the film Ah, vaudeville, vaudeville:
Actor Mikhail Lisichkin, known for his numerous theatrical roles, is going through a difficult period in his life. After he is announced to be resigning, he feels deeply insulted. The loss of the status that he had maintained on stage for so long becomes a real tragedy for him.
This event prompts him to make a decision that he believes will change the fate of his daughter Verochka. Mikhail intends to do everything in his power to keep her away from the scene that, in his opinion, has become the source of his own troubles.
His plans include marrying Verochka successfully to Akaki Ushitsa, a retired hussar ensign and twice widower. Ushitsa is a man who, in Mikhail's opinion, is capable of providing for their family and giving his daughter a stable future. However, Verochka does not share his aspirations.
She is full of ambition and dreams of a theatrical career, wishing to continue the creative dynasty of the Lisichkin family. For her, the stage is not just a job, but a calling in which she sees the meaning of her life.
Verochka decides to take matters into her own hands. She persuades the maid Katya to use cunning to thwart her father's plans.
