Narrative:

The action of the movie D-Day takes place in contemporary Russia. Ivan, a former commander of a special purpose unit, Major of the Airborne Troops (VDV), having resigned from service, secludes himself and his daughter in a suburban forest house, where neither enemies nor friends could find him.

Only Ivan's former boss Colonel Filippov knew about his current deployment, and one fine summer day he showed up at the house of his former and best subordinate. The colonel tells Ivan the disturbing news: someone is taking out his men, former subordinates from the special forces unit Ivan commanded.

Filippov suggested that these were probably Ivan's former enemies, whom he had made in large numbers during his long service, and now apparently Ivan is the next target, so he leaves Ivan a few of his fighters to guard him.

However, as soon as the helicopter with the colonel and the rest of his special forces disappeared over the horizon, Ivan's house was attacked by unknown assailants. They kill the guards left by the colonel and kidnap Ivan's daughter Zhenya. In exchange for his daughter, the terrorists offer Ivan to assassinate the Estonian president, for which he is given a 24-hour deadline.

Ivan realizes that even if he fulfills the terrorists' demand, they will not let his daughter live, so he decides to find her before the deadline set by the terrorists. Having found out where the terrorists' base is Ivan goes to visit them, taking with him a solid arsenal of weapons. Ivan's confidence was given by the fact that the day of his daughter's release coincided with his professional holiday - the day of the Airborne Troops....
