The plot of the movie Roadside Check (1971 film):
The film takes place in 1942. A partisan detachment under the command of Senior Lieutenant Ivan Lokotkov operates in the Pskov region occupied by the Germans. Having been a district police officer in one of the local villages before the war, Lokotkov knew the area well and helped many Red Army soldiers escape from encirclement.
Some of them became members of his unit, like his chief of staff, Major Petushkov. But Junior Sergeant Alexander Lazarev was less fortunate. While escaping from encirclement, he was captured and then went to serve them.
However, having received a short leave, he decides to escape. Having met a partisan scout in the village, he surrenders to him and asks to be taken to the commander. During his service with the Germans, Lazarev did not have time to stain his hands with blood and hoped that they would understand him and take him into the detachment.

However, not everyone was understanding. Many believed that Lazarev should have been brought to trial. Major Petushkov, who lost his only son in the war, insisted on this very ardently.

In addition, Lokotkov needed access to the railway station from where the Germans were planning to send a train with food to Germany. And it was important for the Soviet command that this train go in the other direction.
Lazarev served with the Germans and many knew him by sight. This meant that he could easily get to the station and lead his comrades there. However, before sending Lazarev on such an important mission, he had to be tested in action. Testing on the roads, where you are one-on-one with the enemy, was the best method for partisans…
