Narrative:

In 1984, in Saratov, an improvised explosive device exploded in the entrance of a five-story building. Despite the fact that no one was injured in the explosion, this event became an emergency incident of all-Union scale.

The operatives who arrived on the scene interviewed the residents of the affected entrance, but no one could tell anything about the case. If the detectives could have assumed that the witnesses interviewed knew who had done it, many lives might have been saved. However, the cowardice of some led to new victims.

Shortly after this incident, the director of the local market was shot dead in his office with a sawed-off shotgun. The murderer, who arrived at the scene in a cab, had previously killed the cab driver and taken possession of his car.

The surviving assistant principal gave a description of the perpetrator: a tall man, wearing a black coat and hat and a mask covering his face.

But it is very difficult to find a person by such signs in a huge city, the detectives needed to understand the motive of these murders, and there was none. The victims were not connected in any way.

However, soon an unknown criminal kills another cab driver and tries to take possession of his car. This time the murderer was spooked by passers-by, who urgently called the police. This time, at the scene of the incident, the detectives found blank sheets of paper, on which experts identified the fingerprints of a previously convicted repeat offender.

But even here the detectives were disappointed: this recidivist was in a neighboring town in the DETENTION CENTER and had a 100% alibi.

The search continues, and in the meantime the criminal blows up a beer stall. He seems to believe in his invulnerability and impunity, but his self-confidence fails him and he makes a tragic mistake....
