Действие фильма «Тревожный вылет» происходит в начале 80-х годов, в России. Молодой navigatorSenior Lieutenant Vladimir Kokorev arrives at his new duty station, in a border aviation squadron. Despite his age, Kokorev has already had a real battle-hardening experience in one of the hot spots.

Having arrived in the border aviation squadron, Kokorev has already managed to distinguish himself here: he conducts excellent combat firing and receives well-deserved praise from the head of the firing squadron. The squadron commander plans to appoint Vladimir as a navigator to Captain Zhiltsov's crew: his former navigator Bryzgalov was recently killed on a combat mission.
