Narrative:

The action of the film "You are my only one" takes place in the early 90s in Russia. Socialism has already been destroyed, and capitalism is just beginning to emerge, but society is rapidly beginning to stratify into the poor and the rich. The main character of the film, forty-year-old Evgeny Timoshin, works as an engineer in a design bureau, but his meager salary is not enough, so Evgeny, in order to feed his family, is forced to work part-time as a loader at night.

Timoshin lives with his wife and high school daughter in a one-room apartment, and sometimes he and his wife think that they will hardly ever be able to live like human beings. In addition, the design bureau where Timoshin worked was going to be closed soon.

True, several people from the design bureau were supposed to be taken to the joint Russian-American enterprise “Impulse”, but Evgeny didn’t really count on this, because in SP They will only take two engineers, and there are thirty of them in the design bureau.

However, Timoshin soon gets a chance, because this very enterprise will be headed by Anna Kolivanova, the sister of his best friend Alexei Kolivanov.

Twenty years ago, Alexey married an American and emigrated to the United States. Now he was the owner of a company that was opening a joint venture in Russia, which Anna would manage. As a child, Anna was hopelessly in love with Timoshin, but he paid no attention to the girl at the time.

Having learned that Anna would be heading the joint venture, Timoshin perked up, but at a meeting with the design bureau employees, Anya, as it seemed to Evgeny, did not even recognize him, or pretended not to know him.

Timoshin's wife, Natasha, learns through her own channels that her husband's fate depends on Anna and demands that Timoshin swallow his pride and go to Anna to get a job at the joint venture. But Evgeny categorically refuses, because twenty years have passed since Anya and Alexey left, and now she has probably forgotten him completely. On this basis, the spouses quarrel, and Natasha leaves home with her daughter.

But Anna had not forgotten Evgeny, as he thought. She had loved him for all these twenty years and was waiting for this meeting. Having just arrived in Russia, Anna made inquiries about Timoshin and easily found his house. Timoshin was very surprised when he saw her on the threshold of his wretched dwelling, and even more so because Anna still loved him.

Anna offers Evgeny everything he could dream of: a prestigious, highly paid job, trips to America and Europe, in general, the life that only a small percentage of new Russians in Russia lived.

Timoshin was almost ready to agree, but he did not love Anna, and he could not just sell himself for the beautiful life. Besides, he loved Natasha, for him she was the only woman whom, despite their hard life, he truly loved...
