The plot of the movie Kandahar (movie 2010):
The action of the movie takes place in 1995. There is a civil war in Afghanistan. In the course of this civil war, detachments Taliban захвачен второй по значимости город в стране — Кандагар. Войска законного правительства отступают, талибы продолжают казни среди мирного населения страны.
At this troubled time, a Russian IL-76 transport plane is flying from Albania to Afghanistan. The plane is to deliver ammunition to Kabul as humanitarian aid to the legitimate government of Afghanistan. But as soon as the plane crossed the Afghan border, it was attacked by a fighter jet belonging to the Taliban army. Adel, the fighter pilot and at the same time the commander of the Islamist Air Force, had studied flying in the former USSR and ironically turned out to be a classmate of the IL-76 crew commander Vladimir Ivanovich Karpatov.
Adel contacted Karpatov and demanded that he land the plane at Kandahar airport for inspection. Otherwise, Adel threatened to shoot down the plane and fired two warning flares. This forced the Russian crew to accept the Taliban pilot's demand and land in Kandahar.
Near the plane, the crew of the Russian flight was attacked by an angry mob of bearded and armed men. Five crew members were seized and taken to a filthy shed on the outskirts of the city. The Taliban accused the detainees of trying to bring ammunition into a country in civil war. And they even held a press conference for foreign journalists at which the crew members confirmed this.

All attempts by the Russian Foreign Ministry to free the pilots were unsuccessful and soon the captives realized that they were not going to get out of captivity alive. They soon learned the true reason for their capture. Adel offered the pilots to teach his men how to fly and promised to pay good money, but the Russian pilots refused.
As the harsh days of languid imprisonment began, the pilots realized that they were only alive because the Taliban had hope that they would cooperate. Worse, the insurgents learned the exact addresses of the pilots' families and threatened to kill them if they refused to cooperate.
Karpatov decides to cooperate and begins training Taliban pilots. This gave the commander a chance to study the situation at the airfield. The fact that the Taliban regularly allowed the crew to perform routine maintenance on the airplane gave the captives little hope of escape. On one occasion, the commander managed to convince the Islamists to repair the landing gear damaged during emergency braking and to perform routine maintenance on the expensive equipment.
Taking advantage of the fact that the time to change the landing gear was during namaz (canonical prayer, one of the five pillars of Islam), the captives managed to disarm the few guards, start the plane and take to the sky. Putting into practice the knowledge and experience gained in combat, the commander takes off and steers the plane toward Iran at low altitude, defending himself from his pursuers. The captivity lasted 378 days.....
