The plot of the TV series Mindhunter (Season 1) (Season 1):
The action of the series takes place in the late 70s of the last century. Postwar leap in the development of civilization gave and a sharp jump in crime. In addition to classical crime, the world faced with manifestations of serial murders on sexual grounds.
It was much more difficult to calculate a serial killer than an ordinary killer. Because when a person kills another person, there's always a motive. It could be robbery, or revenge, or jealousy, etc. But this is not the case with maniacs.
Each of them has a motive, but it's far from obvious. And besides, most of the maniacs were law-abiding citizens. And their appearance didn't make them look like criminals. And many of them even had wives and children, so it was extremely difficult to recognize in such a person rapist and pedophile.
Taking all this into account, there was a new direction in forensics, which dealt with the study of the psychology of maniacs. And the FBI created a department of behavioral analysis. Employees of this department study the psychological profile of the killer using a new method. They visit prisons and interview maniacs serving their sentences.
Despite the fact that members of the department were forbidden to participate in investigations, their advice to police agents was very practical and useful. In hot pursuit, several killers are apprehended who could otherwise have become serial killers.....
