Everyone knew that the Soviet Union was not ready for war; war was like thunder in the sky for us. We were living peacefully and building socialism, while all the bourgeois around us were only dreaming of how to crush the country of universal brotherhood and equality.
Since the USSR was a purely peaceful country, naturally there were few weapons, very few, one rifle for three or even four men. This explained the crushing defeats of the Red Army in the first months of the war.
At the decline of communism added another myth that the reason for the failure of the Red Army in the initial period of the war was that before the war Stalin destroyed the best strategists Tukhachevsky, Blucher and Yakir, and with them 40 thousand of the best generals and officers.
But when you think about all this, questions arise. For example, how did it happen that the German attack on the USSR was a surprise? After all, the Germans had to pull up huge masses of troops and military equipment to the Soviet borders, how could this be done unnoticed?
But even if they were attacked, there should have been at least some plan for the defense of the country, even if it was thrice peace-loving. Every kindergarten has an evacuation plan in case of fire. In the guardhouse, the head of the guardhouse, brings the combat calculation in case of fire, attack on the post and so on.

Why was there no plan for the defense of the country, if the USSR was surrounded by only enemies? It is not clear, finally, about the strange friendship between the USSR and Nazi Germany, why Stalin allowed Hitler to attack Poland, because before 1939 there was no common border between the Soviet Union and Germany? V. Suvorov answers these questions. In his opinion, the reason for the shameful defeat of the Red Army in 1941 is not the readiness of the USSR for a defensive war.
The Soviet Union was preparing for another war - an offensive and aggressive war, a war of little blood and on foreign territory. The war took the Red Army by surprise, the troops had already arrived at the border, and the military equipment, ammunition and weapons were on unloading or in warehouses, and soldiers under enemy fire had no opportunity to use them.
That is why it was one rifle for three, and not because the "peace-loving" USSR produced few weapons in the pre-war years. The Kremlin historians in general's epaulettes reply to all of V. Suvorov's arguments that there is no proof of the most important part of his version.
The very plan of the USSR attack on Germany, which is found in the archives and published, is not signed by Stalin. And if it is not signed, it means that the attack was not prepared. But knowing that earlier communists as zealously denied famine and repression, which today every schoolchild knows about, one doubts that communists dreamed of a peaceful existence with other countries that did not have universal "equality", collective farms, gulags, NKVD and other "achievements" of socialism.
Why do the Communists, who have admitted to crimes against their own people, keep the truth about the war so hidden from us? Because the war is the last myth of communism. They say: "Yes, there was famine and repression, but we won the war, saved the country and the people from enslavement". And if this last shaky trump card is knocked out from under the Communists' feet, a terrible picture opens up....
