It is more than half a century since the Great Patriotic War ended, and still historians cannot understand the true causes of the tragic events of 1941. Despite the victory in the war, the first months of the war became an indelible disgrace for the Soviet leadership, which in the first, postwar years preferred to keep silent about the causes of heavy defeats in 1941.
The first to try to explain this catastrophe was Nikita Khrushchev, who took over the country after Stalin's death. These include the lack of readiness for war, the repressions against the top commanders of the Red Army on the eve of the war and the lack of troops to cover the border.
However, half a century later, historians have accumulated many questions that question the official view expressed by Khrushchev. Why did Stalin sign the pact with Hitler in August 1939, and what was in the secret protocols to this pact?
Why in the first hours of the war the troops were not ordered to organize defense, but were instructed not to respond to provocations? Why, despite the incoming information about Germany's preparations for war against the USSR, Stalin did not believe in such a possibility?
Why in May 1941, Stalin accepted the post of Chairman of the Government of the USSR, and immediately after the outbreak of war refused this position? And finally, was there really a secret plan to "Thunderstorm"that envisioned a Soviet attack on Germany?
