The plot of the movie Customs (movie 1982):

The action of the movie Customs takes place in the early 1980s in Leningrad. The young customs officer Yuri Khorunzhev on his first shift discovers in the engine room of the transport ship "Amur" ownerless gold coins wrapped in a sailor's robe. Nikolai Delkov, the ship's mechanic, who was present during the inspection, informed Khorunzhev that the robe belonged to Pavel Sukhanov, the engine driver who had mysteriously disappeared the previous day.

The second surprise for Khorunzhev was a meeting with his childhood friend Victor Malyshev, who worked on the ship as a doctor. Now Yuri had an unpleasant procedure ahead of him: to inspect his comrade's personal belongings. The young customs officer failed to do so, and in violation of his official instructions did not check Malyshev's luggage.

Nikolai Malyshev got home safely, but a few minutes later Delkov literally burst into his apartment. He unceremoniously entered the apartment and, having found Victor's suitcase there, took out of it a belt with gold coins. He told the bewildered Victor that he and his childhood friend Khorunzhev were now unwitting accomplices in the crime, and gave Malyshev a large sum of money for those times - five thousand rubles.

The disappearance of the motorist does not give Yuri Khorunzhev any peace. He realizes that it has something to do with the gold found on the ship. But could Pavel Sukhanov be a smuggler and wrapped the gold in his own uniform, here, what is wrong. These doubts Yuri shares with Victor, who invited him that same evening to visit.

Victor did not answer his friend, but after comparing the facts he realized that probably the unfortunate Sukhanov had witnessed Delkoff's illegal trade and he had killed him in cold blood. The next evening Malyshev had to go on another voyage, but before that he decided to pay a visit to Delkov. He returns the criminal money to him and informs him of his suspicions about Pavel.

This mistake cost him his life, and Delkov again killed the witness in cold blood, hiding his corpse in his dacha. Realizing that now he cannot stay in the country, Delkov decides to leave the country, taking with him his wealth.

At this time Yuri Khorunzhiy, having heard from his chief that the case with ownerless gold had already taken place a few months ago on the ship "Slavutich" lifted the ship's documents. Yuri was not very surprised to find Delkov's surname in the ship's role of "Slavutich"; the young customs officer did not like him from the very beginning.

The tension increased even more when Yuri received a call from Tatiana, Malyshev's wife, who informed him that Victor had disappeared. From Tatiana's words, Yuri realized that Victor had gone to Delkov's house in the morning. Khorunzhev rushes to follow, but does not catch: neither Victor, nor Delkov. The latter notices that the customs officer is digging at him and sets port hooligans on him. Yuri manages to fend off the attackers, but he is almost late for the clearance of the ship.

The first thing he does is to run to Delkov's cabin and start a thorough search. But Delkov is a hard worker and has safely stashed the currency. Yuri was already desperate to find contraband, and going out into the corridor wanted to sign a customs declaration, but here his eyes fell on the fire box and by the anxious look Delkov, he realized that the goal is somewhere near....
