The plot of the movie The Prisoner of the Caucasus (movie 1996):

The movie takes place during the First Chechen War. The main characters Sasha, a warrant officer, and Ivan Zhilin, a young unarmed soldier, are captured by militants who sell them to Adbdul Murat, a resident of a remote mountain village.

Since Adbdul-Murat's son was himself a prisoner of the Federals, he decides to exchange him for these two captives, and has them write to their relatives, who were to persuade the command to go along with such an exchange.

And if young Zhilin believed that such an exchange was possible and even wrote a letter to his mother with hope, the experienced ensign Sasha doubted that they would be able to escape from captivity in this way. And he had no one to write to, because he was an orphanage student.

The only possible chance to avoid a harsh fate is to escape, so Sasha thought, and one day the captives managed to escape from the confinement...
