The plot of the movie Corps of General Shubnikov:
Late at night, General Zeitzler woke Hitler and informed his Fuhrer unpleasant news: near Stalingrad, the Red Army closed the ring of encirclement, in which there were significant forces of the Wehrmacht. Zeitzler suggested that Hitler immediately withdraw the encircled units, which meant surrendering positions on the Volga.
Hitler did not even want to hear about it: his order to stand to the end, shared and Field Marshal Keitel, who proposed to quickly form and send to the aid of the encircled troops Army Group "Don" under the command of General Manstein. This Army Group was also supposed to include reserves from other parts of the front, where no major Russian offensive was foreseen.
At this time, the commander of the tank brigade, Major General Shubnikov, arrived in Moscow for a new assignment. General Shubnikov was appointed commander of the mechanized corps by the order of the rate. In Moscow, Shubnikov was given the task: to take command of the corps and under heavy camouflage to move to the specified area.
Arriving at the front, Shubnikov received a new task. To lead his corps into the corridor formed as a result of the army offensive in the German defense, to make a 72-kilometer march, to take the junction station Bovkovka and joining the troops of the Western Front to close the ring of encirclement.
But having released the army commander, General Polivanov, the front commander further clarifies Shubnikov's task. The commander informs Shubnikov that no Western Front will come to meet him and there will be no encirclement of the Germans. General Shubnikov's corps will act independently, and in the deep rear of the Germans.
