Plot of the film School (1980 film):
The action of the film "School" takes place in 1917, after the February Revolution. The First World War has been going on for several years, and more and more people are being thrown into it. Many boys from Russia had fathers at the front, and now there was less and less good news from the front.
Grammar school student Boris Golikov was lucky. He and his mother were visited by his father's fellow soldier, who brought a long-awaited letter from his father. In addition, the soldier brought a special gift for fifteen-year-old Boris. This gift was a German pistol "Walther", which his father found in an enemy trench and which, according to his father, would come in handy very soon.
What this meant and why he would need the pistol, Boris did not understand then. But as a source of pride it was very useful, because Boris, like most boys, was proud that his father was at the front, and he told his friends about the pistol that his father had taken from a German he had killed.
However, soon the school received a message that his father was not a hero at all, but a deserter who not only fled from the front, but also engaged in defeatist propaganda among other soldiers.
After such a disgrace, it became impossible for Boris to stay in school, and when his fellow students, having learned about his father’s pistol, tried to take it away, he ran away.

He had his father’s pistol in his pocket, and in his soul there was a great desire to finish what his father had not managed to do…
