The investigative and operational group of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department (Moscow Criminal Investigation Department, 38 Petrovka Street) is investigating the murder of a police officer, Sergeant Major Kopytov.

A service pistol was stolen, which the criminals used to rob a workshop and a store. They also tried to rob a savings bank, but there they misfired.

At this time, citizen Samsonov contacts the police. His seventeen-year-old son Lyonka left home, taking his award pistol. Soon the teenager himself came to the police and reported that he was an unwitting participant in the attack on the savings bank.

Because of his parents' frequent quarrels, Lyonka often left home. And one day he met two men on the street who got him involved in this business.

The detectives believed the teenager, especially since he confessed to everything himself. In addition, Lyonka gave the investigation a description of the criminals and the nickname of one of them.

"Chita" was the name of the youngest of the criminals. A previously unconvicted petty thief and black marketeer would hardly have committed murder. And even less so a police officer. Having set up an ambush in the house of "Chita's" friend, the operatives detain him. He is found to be in possession of the same service pistol stolen from the murdered sergeant major Kopytov.

But before "Chita" spoke, detectives established fingerprints on the weapon. They belonged to a certain "Prokhor", a hardened criminal and Vlasovite, wanted since 1945...
