Movie plot:
The film takes place in 1916 on one of the fronts. First World War. Tsarist army soldier Bumbarash receives an order to conduct aerial reconnaissance of enemy positions.
However, the balloon on which Bumbarash took off into the sky was shot down by the enemy and nosedived straight into the German positions.
Seeing this, the commander who sent Bumbarash into the sky immediately called the clerk and dictated to him a report that the soldier Bumbarash had heroically died for the faith, the Tsar and the Fatherland. However, Bumbarash did not die, but was captured and returned to his homeland two years later.
At that time, a fratricidal civil war was raging in the Motherland. The power in the country changed like the light in a traffic light.
In the village of Dubki, power was held by counter-revolutionary elements in the person of a certain Gavrila, who with his gang was engaged in robbery and plunder. Arriving in Dubki, Bumbarash realized that they were not happy with his return.
Relatives, having received a letter about Bumbarash's heroic death, sold his house and other property, and now were not eager to give the money back. The only one who was happy about Bumbarash's return was his friend Yashka.
