Narrative:
The action of the movie A moment of silence unfolds in the early 1970s. While laying a new highway, the builders discover the grave of a Soviet soldier who died during the Great Patriotic War. There were some letters on the plaque, but because no one took care of the grave for a long time, it was impossible to read the name and surname of the dead hero.
The head of construction decides to move the grave to another place, but it was necessary to find out the name of the dead soldier. Seeing the trainee Sergei Krasheninnikov shirking his work, the chief instructs him to go to the city and find out the name of the unknown soldier at the military commissioner's office.
At first Sergei was engaged in this case because of the order of the chief, but then, when he learned that the dead soldier before his death defeated the German headquarters, he decided to bring this case to the end and certainly find out the name of the dead hero ...
1942. Five soldiers from a separate automobile company brought several cars from the front line for repair. Having left the vehicles in the repair unit, they went to the city to hand in their food certificates and to receive their dry rations.
However, when the soldiers came back, the repair unit was no longer there, it had been evacuated because of a sudden German breakthrough at the front. The head of the group, Petty Officer Bokarev, decides to leave the encirclement and go east, but on the way the group encounters a German patrol. In the ensuing firefight two soldiers are killed, and petty officer Bokarev, private Krayushkin and wounded private Ogorodnikov manage to escape from pursuit.
But Bokarev realizes that Ogorodnikov needs medical help and decides to bring him to the city to leave him for a while with some of the locals.
However, soon, when they delivered Ogorodnikov to a local resident, the Germans entered the town. Bokarev realizes that they will not be able to hide for long in the city without food and water, so he decides to steal a car from the Germans and escape from the city....
