Plot:

The action of the film "Dauria" takes place in the summer of 1918 in the village of Mungalovskoye, Orlovskaya stanitsa of the Transbaikal Cossack army. The main character of the film, young Cossack Roman Ulybin, was a brave and reckless young man, but due to his father's poverty he was forced to work as a farm laborer for wealthy Cossacks.

In addition, Roman's uncle Vasily Andreevich Ulybin was exiled to hard labor for his political beliefs, and Roman's fellow villagers occasionally reproached him for this. Roman himself, up to a certain point, did not delve into politics and was pleased with the social system that existed in his village in particular, and in Russia in general.

But one day he too suffered the bitter fate of social injustice. The girl Dauria, with whom Roman was in love, was forced to fulfill her father's will and marry Alyoshka Chepalov, the son of a local merchant. The dashing Cossack's despair knew no bounds, but at that very moment, when Alyoshka and Dauria's wedding was still going on, news arrived that the war with Germany had begun...

Several years passed. The world war, as the Bolsheviks had planned, turned into a civil war and Russia was engulfed in the fire of fratricidal slaughter. Roman Ulybin, as befits a poor man, joined the Soviet power and became a Red commander, fighting for social justice and universal brotherhood under the command of his uncle Vasily Ulybin.

In the summer of 1918, a critical situation developed at the front. The counterrevolution went on the offensive, pushing back the Red Army units. Under pressure from General Semenov, the surviving units of the Red Army soldiers who were holding the city's defense were forced to retreat and go into the woods. Among those who retreated was Roman Ulybin and his fighters. Wandering through the woods, Ulybin's detachment was ambushed and captured by General Semenov's White Guards.

The conversation with the prisoners was short: they were asked to repent of their crimes on their knees, otherwise they would be shot. During the shooting, Roman and his fellow villager and friend Fedot Muratov miraculously managed to escape. Running away from his pursuers, Roman finds himself in his native places and visits Dauria and his parents.

The Cossacks found out that Roman was in the village and set up an ambush for him, but Roman manages to escape again. Wandering through the woods, Roman stumbles upon a detachment of Red Army soldiers. To his great displeasure, he learns that the soldiers are hiding in the forest like rats and do not want to go and shed blood for the Soviet government. Having warmed themselves in the forest in warm dugouts, drinking moonshine liberally, the former formidable albatrosses of the revolution decided to wait out its final victory in the forest.

Thanks to his oratorical talent, Roman manages to convince the soldiers to change their attitude towards their revolutionary duty and to raise them to battle. From these stumbled fighters, Roman puts together a combat-ready partisan detachment and begins to root out the counter-revolution in the deep rear of the White Guards.

Unable to stop the Red Army soldiers, the White Guards resort to terror. In the village of Mungalovskoye, a Cossack from the punitive detachment, on the orders of his captain, flogged the Cossack ataman Yelisey Kargin, only because Kargin did not remember all those who sympathized with the Soviet power.

The captain kills Roman Ulybin's father, despite the fact that he did not share his son's political views. After this, the number of Cossacks sympathizing with the Soviet government increased significantly, and at this time a detachment of Red Army soldiers under Ulybin's command entered the village. But the joy of liberating his native village was overshadowed for Roman by the death of his father, who did not live to see this victorious day...
