Plot of the film Gloomy River (1968 film):
The film takes place at the beginning of the late 19th century, at the beginning of the 19th century. Before his death, Danila Gromov confesses to his only son Pyotr that he was a murderer and a robber.
While engaged in robbery, the elder Gromov accumulated a lot of gold, which he now bequeathed to Peter.
Having taken possession of his father's gold, Pyotr Gromov decided to engage in commercial activity and for this purpose sends his son Prokhor on a journey along the Ugryum River to learn the merchant's trade.
On the way, young Gromov faced severe trials, because of which he almost died. These trials tempered Prokhor's character and will, and, having returned home, he tries to live honestly and according to his conscience.
However, in pursuit of wealth, Prokhor very soon forgets about his good intentions and becomes a tough and calculating businessman, for whom money becomes the meaning of life.
On his way to the top, Prokhor does not stop at betrayal or murder, but for all the evil done in life he has to pay very dearly...
