Plot of Quiet Flows the Don (1958 film):

The film takes place on the Don in the village of Veshenskaya on the eve of World War I. The young Cossack Grigory Panteleevich Melekhov is in love with his neighbor Aksinya Astakhova. Aksinya is married, and she and Grigory have to hide their relationship.

But soon everything secret becomes clear, and the whole village starts talking about their affair. Having learned that Grigoriy is committing adultery with a married woman while her husband is at work, Panteley Melekhov is extremely outraged by his son's actions and decides to marry him off as soon as possible. Soon, at the insistence of his parents, Grigoriy marries Natalya Korshunova, a rich Cossack woman and the younger sister of his best friend Dmitry Korshunov.

However, marriage could not extinguish Grigoriy's love for Aksinya, and he tells Natalya about it. Upon learning of this, Melekhov Sr. kicks his son out of the house. Having left his parents' home, Grigoriy goes to work as a farm laborer at the estate of the Cossack general Nikolai Listnitsky.
