Mortal Enemy (1971) movie plot:

After the end of the civil war, Red Army soldier Arseny Andreevich Klyukvin arrives on the Don to establish Soviet power in his native village. Here he organizes a commune, a collective village farm, which is joined mainly by local poor people and farm laborers of wealthy kulaks.

The kulaks, however, were hostile to the Soviet government with its egalitarianism in general and to its representative Klyukvin in particular. For them, the Soviet government and its representative Klyukvin were mortal enemies, which the kulaks were not afraid to tell Klyukvin and advised the chairman not to meddle in their affairs.

But the former chairman was not afraid of the threats, and did not back down before the enemies of the Soviet power, and soon took away from the house of the richest local kulak Yashchurov, his daughter-in-law Anna. Her husband Alexander Yashchurov died in the war several years ago, and now Anna was simply working as a farmhand in the house of her father-in-law.

But as it turned out, Alexander Yashchurov was alive and one day he returned home, returned and claimed his rights to his wife, who was now living with Klyukvin and expecting his child.

True to Christian morality, Anna decides to return to her lawful husband and takes her child with Klyukvin. But life with her ex-husband, who is the same staunch enemy of Soviet power as his dad, is not getting better. Alexander and his father constantly reproach her for her connections with communists, insult, mock, humiliate and force her to serve. And one day, her husband, returning from another party, beats Anna severely.

Unable to bear such physical and mental torment, Anna decides to return to Klyukvin, who, before her departure, said that he would always be glad to see her return...
