Plot of the TV series Quiet Flows the Don (TV series 2006):

The series takes place between 1910 and 1920 on the Don in the Cossack village of Tatarsky. When he went to war in 1914, the series' main character Grigory Melekhov did not suspect that his war would drag on for so long, and that his enemies would be those with whom he had recently baptized children.

After emerging from the First World War, Russia plunged into an even more terrible, fratricidal war, in which brother went against brother and son against father. Speaking out against the war, the Bolsheviks agitated the soldiers to throw down their arms and return home, and the soldiers, tired of the long war, willingly responded to these calls, especially since in addition to this, the Bolsheviks promised to give the land to the peasants, and the factories and plants to the workers.

Grigory Melekhov, like most of his fellow soldiers, believed the Bolsheviks and, having gone over to their side, came to the Don to build Soviet power. However, as Grigory was convinced, not all Cossacks shared his new views. The hard-working and wealthy Cossacks, who had earned their "riches" with sweat and blood, did not want to share the land equally with the poor idlers who had now been promoted to leadership positions by the new government.

Not wanting to go against the Cossack majority, Grigory Melekhov decides to leave politics, but politics did not want to let Grigory go. Cossack uprisings against Soviet power begin on the Don, and Grigory was forced to stand up for his people. However, the cruelty with which the rebels killed their own Cossack brothers who found themselves on the other side of the barricades repelled Grigory Melekhov, and he again went over to the Reds.

Wanting to atone for his guilt before the Soviet authorities, Melekhov, without sparing his life, fought on the fronts of the Civil War, but this was not enough for the authorities to forgive him. Returning home, Grigory realized that he was not forgotten and not forgiven here, because the sons and brothers of those whom he killed now ruled over his native Don...
