The plot of the movie Volunteers (movie 1958):

The movie is set in the mid-30s, in the USSR. Komsomol announced the recruitment of volunteers for the construction of the Moscow subway and thousands of Komsomol members of Moscow and other cities rushed to sign up for the construction. The competition for the construction of the subway is like a prestigious university, several people per place.

The harsh medical commission has to screen out candidates who have the slightest health problems. In the corridor of the polyclinic, three volunteers, Nikolai Kaitanov, Slava Ufimtsev and Alyosha Akishin, are waiting anxiously for their turn.

Nikolai, Slava and Alyosha, having become friends before the medical commission, are put in the same brigade at Lely Teplova's site. As the oldest and most experienced comrade, Nikolai Kaitanov was promoted to foreman.

Meanwhile, the Komsomol throws a new slogan: "Komsomolets on the airplane!". And Slava Ufimtsev immediately enrolls in an aeroclub. And while friends build the subway in Moscow, Slava fights in Spain and Mongolia.

А вскоре война приходит в Советский Союз. Тысячи молодых парней добровольцами идут на фронт. Николай и Алёша имеют бронь от службы, однако в такой трудное для страны время не хотят отсиживаться в тылу…
