Narrative:

500 million tons of coal per year – the plan that Comrade Stalin set for the country's miners at the end of the 1940s. Naturally, the fulfillment of this grandiose plan could not be accomplished without a significant increase in labor productivity, which in turn could not grow without technical improvements in the miners' work.

Thus, Soviet designers developed a coal combine, which was supposed to significantly ease the miners' work, and at the same time significantly increase labor productivity. Testing of the prototype began at one of the mines Donbass leading designer Dmitry Ivanovich Trofimenko.

At first, the tested combine worked very poorly, and Trofimenko had to make technical adjustments to its design as he went along. Nevertheless, the combine was highly rated by both young and old miners, for whom a hammer and a shovel were much more familiar than any technical innovations.

Having realized that the combines were the future, the Donetsk miners provided Trofimenko with all possible assistance in his tests, and when unsuccessful tests threatened to disrupt the plan, the miners took on the obligation to fulfill one and a half norms above the plan, hoping that in the future, with the help of the combine, they would easily make up for lost time.

And the combine really did not fail and worked at full capacity, and soon its use in the Donbass mines was to become widespread. In connection with this, the social status of the miners also changed, because now they had to become technically literate workers, therefore, many, regardless of age, had to sit down at school desks again...
