The series takes place from the early 1930s to the mid-1940s. Worker Fyodor Zhilin, as the head of a food detachment, is sent to carry out collectivization to his small homeland in the Urals.

Fyodor faces a difficult task, since the majority of peasants, and especially wealthy villagers or “kulaks,” did not want to voluntarily join the collective farms.

The harshest measures of influence, called “dekulakization,” were applied to such people, as a result of which the peasant was not only deprived of all his property, but was also evicted to the northern regions of the country.

Fyodor's father was himself a "kulak" and at a party meeting where the question of Zhilin's admission to the party was being decided, he was instructed to "dekulakize" his own father. However, despite his heroic biography, Fyodor refuses to go against his parents, for which he ends up under arrest.

At this time, large-scale industrialization begins in the country. In the Urals and other cities of the USSR, grandiose construction projects are underway, to which volunteers from all over the country and those who have somehow offended the Soviet government come.
