Plot:

The action of the film "Shadows Disappear at Noon" takes place in the Siberian village of Zeleny Dol in 1916. Thanks to the soldiers who returned from the front, even here in the taiga wilderness the spirit of revolution is in the air and everything feels like the main events are not long away.

After the October Revolution in 1917, the poor of Zelenodolsk support the revolution and take up arms against their oppressors. The partisan detachment is led by a young girl, Marya Voronova, a former farm laborer of the rural rich man, Filipp Menshikov, and after the civil war, Marya becomes the chairwoman of the Zelenodolsk artel.

In the early 1920s, a famine hits the war-torn country. Directives are issued from the center to increase grain procurements, and Marya approaches the party's assignment with full responsibility. This does not please the local kulaks, the Menshikov brothers, and they decide to kill the ideological chairwoman.

But after Marya's death, the artel is headed by her old comrade and deputy in the partisan detachment, Zakhar Bolshakov. Zakhar, like Marya, had worked as a farm laborer for the Menshikovs in the past and was also an implacable fighter against the kulaks. The kulaks try to kill Zakhar too, but this time their plan fails. Filipp Menshikov is arrested, and his brother Demid escapes.

However, it is not possible to hand over Philip Menshikov to the justice system; he is killed by Anisim Shatrov, who was in love with Marya and guessed whose hands were responsible for her murder.

But the kulaks did not abandon their determination to fight against the Soviet power, which deprived them of power and wealth. And soon in the village of Zeleny Dol appear the comrades of the Menshikov brothers: Konstantin Zhukov and Serafima Klychkova. In the past, Zhukov's father had his own flour mill in the city, and Klychkova's father was a rich gold miner.

Having lost such wealth, Zhukov and Klochkova decide to fight the damned government to their last breath. Hoping that in this Siberian wilderness, the Soviet government is still very weak, they come to Zeleny Dol under the guise of the Morozovs and gain the trust of the collective farm chairman Zakhar Bolshakov.

But the Soviet power turned out to be much stronger than it seemed to the Morozovs, and their petty sabotage could no longer change the situation as a whole. The kulaks, harboring a grudge, led a double life. In public, they were ardent supporters of the Soviet power, but in secret, they did as much harm to it as they could. This could not escape the notice of their son Fyodor, who did not accept his father's line of behavior.

In 1941, fortune smiled on the kulaks. They greeted the news of the war with great joy, which was supposed to free them from the hated government. Zhukov, like most of the Zelenodolsk people, went to the front, but soon went over to the enemy side. Here in the war, his path crossed with his son Fyodor, an underground fighter and intelligence officer. Fearing exposure, Zhukov killed Fyodor and, sensing the imminent defeat of the Germans, escaped from them.

Soon Zhukov, as if nothing had happened, shows up at his native collective farm and even becomes a foreman. But secretly Zhukov continues to harm the collective farm and soon his true nature comes to light…
