In Central Asia, archaeologists find a unique golden helmet that belonged to a great commander Alexander the Great. Somehow this amazing find becomes known to the authoritative Moscow thief Alexander Bely, nicknamed "Docent".
"Docent" manages to track down the archaeologists and, together with two henchmen, "Khmyr" and "Kosy", steal a unique helmet and hide in one of the summer cottage villages in the Moscow region.
The detectives quickly locate the criminals and detain them. However, the helmet itself was not found on them. Just before the arrest, "Docent" managed to hide it securely, and it was practically impossible to get such a seasoned criminal to talk.

There were two of his henchmen left – petty criminals “Khmyr” and “Kosoy”. But they were more afraid of “Docent” than of the law and preferred to serve their sentences from bell to bell rather than testify.

Сам «Доцент» в это время отбывал срок в колонии для особо опасных рецидивистов под Москвой и не имел контакта со своими подручными.
This freelance operative turned out to be the head of the kindergarten, Yevgeny Ivanovich Troshkin, who was identified on the street as “Associate Professor” by the archaeologist professor Maltsev.
Troshkin's resemblance to "Docent" was such that his own mother would not have been able to tell them apart. That's why the detectives seized on the idea of Troshkin playing Bely.
After careful instruction, Troshkin was sent to the colony, where he was supposed to act according to a pre-agreed plan.
But the operation does not go according to plan, and Troshkin has to improvise. Upon closer acquaintance with his new charges, Troshkin is convinced that they are not some kind of hardened criminals. Being near them, Troshkin acutely understands that his task is not only to find the helmet, but also to return these stray losers to normal life...
