At the end of the year, it is always customary to sum up the results of the past year. All small and large enterprises reported on the fulfillment of the annual plan. Those who lagged in this matter were not only branded with shame, but also punished with the ruble, without paying a bonus.
This is the situation the Sovremennik photo studio found itself in on the eve of the new year. The prospect that the modest salaries of its employees would be even higher was becoming increasingly obvious. But how could the plan be fulfilled if people did not want to be photographed?
Photographer Volodya Oreshnikov finds a way out of the situation. He offers to photograph all the employees, their relatives and friends. The director appreciates Oreshnikov's offer and, as "gratitude", instructs him to collect money for the mutual aid fund.
Oreshnikov spent the entire working day collecting twenty rubles from his colleagues. And when the money was collected, Oreshnikov, as the "senior", decided to be the first to use it.
The thing is that Volodya had long dreamed of buying a good camera, but his modest salary did not allow him to do so. Oreshnikov uses the shared money to buy government bonds in the hope of hitting the jackpot.

And so, on the thorny path of life, a zigzag of luck finally finds Oreshnikov. He became the winner of a drawing for ten thousand rubles. A huge sum at first glance. But Oreshnikov's appetite has grown. A cooperative apartment in Moscow, a car, a fur coat for the bride. There was no longer enough money for all this.
And while Oreshkin was pondering where to spend the money, his colleagues decided for him. Having rightly reasoned that the winning bond was bought with common money, the winnings should also be common…
