Narrative:
Action of the film Village detective takes place in the 60s of the last century in a small village in Russia. The main character of the film is Fyodor Ivanovich Aniskina, a former front-line soldier, who occupies a modest position for his serious age - a village district police officer, and bears the same modest rank of police lieutenant.
On the morning when the film's narrative begins, the local club manager comes to Aniskina. He has urgent business - a man has been kidnapped from the club. accordion, worth 350 rubles. The case, as they say, is political, an instrument of art was stolen, and art in the Soviet Union belonged to the people.
Aniskine was keenly interested in this case, since he had investigated the last theft for about the same amount long ago, in 1948. The club manager reported that the theft had been committed after half past eleven at night, he had been in the club until that time, and before leaving he had put the accordion in the safe. Having taken note of the victim's testimony, Aniskine and him set out for the crime scene.
In the club manager's office, the detective found evidence: two glasses and a half-eaten pickle. And a branch of viburnum told the village Sherlock Holmes that the club manager's guest was the saleswoman Dusya - Evdokia Mironovna Pronina, an elderly but unmarried local beauty. The detective knew that the tractor driver, Grishka Storozhev, was in love with Pronina, which meant that the motive for the crime was jealousy.

Going out into the yard, Aniskina finds a trace of a size 45 tarpaulin boot on the board. As an experienced police officer, Aniskina knew that only two people in the village wore size 45 boots: himself and the tractor driver Grishka Storozhev. After talking with Pronina, the detective established that Grishka had been hanging around the club on the night of the abduction and was noticed by her when she and the club manager were walking home.
Aniskina calls Storozhev for questioning. But Grishka swears that he did not take the accordion, although he did not deny that he was near the club in the evening. The local police officer knew Storozhev since childhood, and he himself doubted that Grishka could steal anything. Beating someone up is a different matter. Storozhev recently beat up Semyon Pankov, a local hooligan and brawler. The Pankov brothers worked on a collective farm, and in the evenings they would cause trouble in the club and at dances, instilling fear in the collective farmers. The detective put forward a version that maybe the brothers stole the accordion, knowing about the difficult relationship between the club manager and Storozhev, because then suspicion would fall on Grishka.
Aniskina decides to find out where the accordion is by listening to the area, because the kidnapper will certainly not resist the temptation to play it. In the evening, he and the club manager go out to a hillock, from which the entire village is in full view, and listen to every sound coming from there.
Finally, the club manager recognized the familiar sounds, and the village detective accurately determined the location of the accordion. It was in the bathhouse of the hooligan Penkov brothers, with whose father Anichkin had fought. The experienced district police officer did not break the fate of the brothers who had stumbled and arrested them, because a policeman should not so much punish as educate.
Therefore, he calls a collective farm meeting, where he raises the issue of the brothers' behavior outside of working hours. The collective farmers angrily denounce the hooligans, and after the meeting, Anichkin asks the brothers to listen to the voice of the people, because this is their last warning...
