Narrative:

The action of the series "Red Square" takes place in the period of early 1982. Law enforcement agencies of the USSR begin an unprecedented fight against the dealers of the shadow economy, which, by the most conservative estimates, accounts for 17% of the country's entire economy.

One of the most high-profile cases is the case of the so-called fish mafia, which is being successfully unraveled by the investigator of the Prosecutor General's Office for especially important cases, Igor Shamraev.

He is valued and respected by the General Secretary of the Party, Leonid Brezhnev, and therefore it is Shamraev who is entrusted with the very sensitive case of the suicide of the First Deputy Chairman of the KGB, General Semyon Vigun.

Vigun was a personal and long-standing friend of Brezhnev and, as many believed, his trusted man in the KGB, who had long since escaped the influence of the aging and seriously ill leader and was completely controlled by Suslov.

According to the official KGB version, General Vigun, who enjoyed Brezhnev's patronage, covered for the leaders of the shadow economy, for which he received huge bribes. And after prominent shop stewards were arrested across the country, the general became frightened and committed suicide.

But Shamraev did not believe in these official versions, because even before he began the investigation, pressure had begun on him. And the closer Shamraev came to the truth in his investigation, the more this pressure increased significantly. At some point, Shamraev felt that the lives of his loved ones were in mortal danger and it would be prudent not only to abandon the case, but also to resign from the prosecutor's office, but he knew too much to be left alone now...
