Narrative:

The series "Once Upon a Time in Rostov" takes place between 1962 and 1966. In June 1962, the leadership Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plantreduces prices for finished products, which leads to a 30% reduction in the salaries of the plant's workers.

The workers' discontent could still have been contained if, a few days later, the government had not announced a 30% increase in prices for meat and dairy products. A spontaneous rally by workers at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant grew into a real riot, which was supported by workers at other city enterprises.

They managed to break the resistance of the police and seize the building of the city party committee, then the authorities throw tanks and the army against the rebellious workers. The uprising was brutally suppressed, and the leaders of the workers' uprising were arrested and thrown behind bars.

Soon they appeared before a court, which sentenced all of them without exception to death, and the trial, like all the events that preceded it in Novocherkassk, was kept secret and prohibited from being disclosed.

Nevertheless, rumors of what had happened in Novocherkassk quickly spread throughout the country. People sympathized with the rebellious workers and hated the government even more, which not only reduced people to a miserable, semi-beggarly existence, but also dealt cruelly with any attempts at dissent.

At this time, a gang of "fantomases" is operating in Rostov, named after the hero of the popular French film "Fantomas". The bandits act very boldly and competently, which is why detectives are unable to track them down for a long time, and the bandits, who have become unbridled from impunity, are becoming more and more brazen with each passing day.

Soon rumors about the "fantomases" reached the capital. Oddly enough, people in this situation sympathized with the bandits, because they robbed not ordinary workers, but savings banks, stores and other government institutions, and people no longer trusted the state, much less loved it.
