Plot of the movie The Sea Wolf (1990 film):
As a result of a shipwreck, American writer Humphrey Van Weyden finds himself on the fishing schooner "Ghost", which was heading to hunt seals near the coast of Japan.
Just recently, while on the open sea, Van Weyden had no thought of any rescue. Noticing the silhouette of a ship in the distance, the writer could count on rescue, but having got on board the Ghost, Van Weyden realized that here he was in the same danger as on the open sea.
And all this thanks to the captain of the Ghost, Wolf Larsen. That's what the sailors called him. And no one knew the real name of this devil in the flesh. As Van Weyden managed to notice, this man was endowed not only with remarkable physical strength, but also with natural intelligence.
Without any education, he was able to master not only sea navigation. Larsen read a lot and could discuss any topic of literature or philosophy. However, despite this, Larsen was a monster.

It was no big deal for him to beat or even kill a guilty sailor. Here on the Ghost he was the absolute master of the people under his command and could do whatever he wanted with any of them.
Those who had a heightened sense of self-worth were especially hard hit. Or those who tried to escape from the "Ghost".
As Van Weyden soon discovered, human life was worth nothing on the Ghost. And at any moment his life could end as easily as the life of a fish or an animal. For Larsen, there was no difference between an animal and a man.
Starting as a cabin boy on the Ghost, Van Weyden soon became the captain's mate. The sea wolf believed that everyone should earn their share through hard work and decided to make a "man" out of the gentleman Van Weyden.
While Van Weyden's career was going up, nothing threatened him. However, one day the "Ghost" picked up two passengers from a sunken ship. Among them was a girl named Maud Brewster, who Larsen immediately set his sights on. Van Weyden realized that now the Sea Wolf would not leave the girl alone and decided to escape with her...
