Narrative:

The action of the film "Sea Character" takes place in 1941 during the defense of Odessa. The main character of the film is a young sailor of the Black Sea Fleet Andrey Krotkikh, who serves on the cruiser "Yarosny". But due to gaps in his education, the simple village youth was unable to pass the tests for combat training, so the ship's commander sends him to the kitchen, while Andrey was eager to beat the fascists in battle.

But one day the cruiser received a request to allocate sailors to the marine regiment that was defending Odessa. Since Andrey Krotkikh was practically a useless person on the ship, he was among those whom the cruiser captain decided to send ashore.

Так Андрей Кротких становиться морским пехотинцем — сухопутным моряком и в составе своего полка участвует во всех крупнейших сражениях Великой Отечественной войны: обороне Севастополя, Сталинградской Битве и битве на Курской дуге. Однако морской характер Андрея не позволяет ему забыть про море, и в 1944 году командование, удовлетворив его раппорт,  направляет служить обратно на флот.

But Andrey returns to the ship not as a green and careless sailor, but as a combat warrant officer and decorated one. In addition, warrant officer Krotkikh now masters an important naval specialty and upon arrival on the ship is appointed commander of the demolition squad...
