Marine fauna specialist and professor at the University of Paris Pierre Aronnax was invited to a scientific expedition on the American military frigate Blue Star. The purpose of the expedition was to study a sea monster unknown to science, nicknamed the iron narwhal by sailors.
This narwhal had recently sunk a dozen warships from civilized countries to the bottom of the ocean, and it had to be stopped. As the professor noted, the narwhal appeared where there was fighting. And since there had been an armed rebellion in India recently, Aronnax assumed that the narwhal was in the southern part of the Indian Ocean.
That's where the Blue Star headed. After several months of unsuccessful ocean wanderings, Captain Farragut was about to turn the ship back. But in the evening, the watchman noticed lights coming from under the water.

Despite Aronnax's protest, the captain declares battle alert and orders fire. However, it is too late. Narwhal is the first to hit the Blue Star's side.
As a result of the collision, Professor Aronnax, his servant Conseil and the Canadian harpooner Net Land end up in the water. And then someone carries them aboard the underwater floating apparatus "Nautilus".
The Nautilus was commanded by Captain Nemo. From the first minutes of their acquaintance, Aronnax realized that Captain Nemo was not only a brilliant engineer. Like Aronnax, he was in love with the ocean and knew much more about it than the professor himself.
In the past, Captain Nemo was an Indian prince and a leader of rebels against the British colonialists. After the British killed his family, he fled India. Now, with the help of his submarine, Captain Nemo helped everyone who stood on the path of freedom.
Aronnax understands that the Nautilus is the best laboratory in the world for studying the sea. And here he could realize all his scientific ideas. However, the longing for his homeland turns out to be stronger, and Aronnax decides to escape, to which Net Land and Conseil have been pushing him from the first days...
