Plot of the film Cape Fear (1991 film):

Convicted of raping and beating a sixteen-year-old girl, Max Cady is released from prison. He spent fourteen years in prison and now he is thirsty for revenge on the person who, in his opinion, ruined his life.

No, it wasn't the prosecutor who prepared the charges or even the judge who convicted him. In Cady's opinion, they were just doing their job. But his defense attorney, Sam Bowden, not only failed to do his job. He violated attorney ethics by failing to disclose to the court information that was in favor of the defendant.

Already in prison, having carefully studied his case, Cady learned that the girl he raped was extremely promiscuous and changed several men a month. This fact could have significantly softened the court's sentence, but his defense attorney Sam Bowden did not present him to justice.

Bowden did have such documents in his hands. However, after seeing what Cady had done to the girl, he decided to hide information favorable to the criminal.

And now he had to pay for it. After all, when Cady was released, he was no longer the illiterate guy he was fourteen years ago. During his time serving his sentence, he not only learned to read, but also thoroughly studied the laws.
