Plot of the film Special Forces (1979 film):

The action of the film Special Purpose Detachment takes place in the summer of 1942. With a rapid advance, German troops pushed back Soviet units and occupied a strategic bridgehead for a subsequent offensive. During the retreat, Soviet BM-13 (Katyusha) multiple launch rocket systems came under German fire while crossing the river.

One of the Katyushas fell into the water, and the driver, who was seriously wounded, did not have time to activate the self-destruction system. Since the multiple rocket launchers were a top-secret weapon of the Red Army, the front command received an order to urgently take measures to eliminate the sunken vehicle. Various action plans were put forward, ranging from an intensified air strike on the site of the sinking of the vehicle to the transfer of divisions from the right flank of the front to try to force the Germans out of the occupied bridgehead.

However, no option is approved, since bombing the area will not provide a 100% guarantee of eliminating the installation, and the transfer of several divisions from the right flank of the front will expose it and make it more vulnerable to the enemy, who was advancing along the entire front with large forces.
