Narrative:

The action of the movie A mystery walk takes place in August 1942. The Germans are rushing to the Caucasian oil, the Soviet troops under the pressure of superior enemy forces are forced to retreat. The city of Maikop is abandoned... At this time, the scouts of the Western Front took a valuable "tongue", a German officer, Oberleutnant Max von Herlitz.

This Oberleutnant ironically turns out to be the grandson of General Josef von Herlitz, who serves on the general staff of the Wehrmacht. This old-school general was not without enthusiasm for the Nazi regime, so the heads of Soviet intelligence instantly conceived a plan to recruit the hesitant general.

It is supposed to give the general a personalized watch, which he once gave to his grandson and a letter written by him. To transfer all this to Berlin should be an experienced Soviet spy, Lithuanian Niele. She has long lived in Berlin and is a member of the highest military circles in Germany. In addition, Niele is familiar with the family, von Herlitz. It was decided to transfer Niele to Germany, through the agent "Vitas", working under the guise of a German officer in the Baltics.

The liaison officer, in turn, would take Niele to the 31st or 51st kilometer of the highway, where Vitas would be waiting for them. Arefyev's group, having handed Niele to the partisans, was to return to the location of their unit. But in war one cannot foresee everything. As soon as Niele was handed over to the partisans, they ran into the Germans in the forest, and a fight broke out.

Arefiev and his group are forced to cover Niele's withdrawal. Now they have to act as a backup and take Niele to Andronovo themselves. But the Andronovo liaison was wounded by a Polizei and could not take Niele to the specified area, this task is now entrusted to Arefiev.

All this difficult way the group, bumping into the Germans, lost the best fighters. Covering the retreat of his comrades, Nikolai himself was killed. Pasha Zaitsev and Zarlyk Smanov survived.
