After graduating from the border school, Lieutenant Tarasov was sent to serve on the border with Afghanistan. A year later, his wife Svetlana, unable to bear all the hardships and deprivations of life at the outpost, filed for divorce. Yegorov silently signed the application and decided to accompany Svetlana to Ashgabat.
A helicopter was heading towards Ashgabat, and the outpost commander persuaded the lieutenant colonel to take Yegorov and Svetlana. However, the helicopter did not reach Ashgabat. On the way, it was shot down by armed militants who had violated the border.
Having broken through the border, the bandits were supposed to ensure the transit of a large consignment of drugs, but border guards were in their way. Having shot down the helicopter, the militants rushed to the crash site to clean up any possible witnesses.
But Lieutenant Yegorov figured out their plan and suggested leaving the scene immediately. While the lieutenant colonel believed that they should stay put and wait for another helicopter.
However, the young officer's arguments managed to convince him. After all, although he was a lieutenant colonel, he served in the personnel department. And Egorov was a combat officer and knew the area well. The lieutenant colonel had already managed to familiarize himself with his personal file and knew that Egorov had served his military service in Afghanistan and had been awarded the Order of the Red Star.
