Narrative:

The action of the film "Against the Current" takes place in Primorye, in 1920. Japanese interventionists violated the truce, and the forces of counterrevolution raised their heads. The People's Revolutionary Army, formed from separate partisan detachments, rose to defend the Soviet power.

However, in the difficult front-line situation, communications between military units were broken, and exhausted by heavy fighting, the soldiers of the 22nd Amgun Regiment succumbed to anarchic sentiments.

The regiment commander Semenchuk gave in to the defeatist mood of his soldiers, and it became increasingly difficult for the young commissar Chelnokov to maintain discipline, and finally he found himself completely alone against the entire regiment.

When the regiment dispersed, Chelnokov wanted to shoot himself, but then decided that he needed to report this betrayal to the front commissar Sobol, and then let the military tribunal determine his fate.

However, Sobol did not hand the young commissar over to the tribunal, but gave him a chance to atone for his guilt. He must at any cost return his regiment or destroy the deserters...
