Narrative:

The action of the film "Checkmate of the Queen of Diamonds" takes place in Riga in the early 70s. A certain Alida Grube is murdered in the city. Her face was severely disfigured by sulfuric acid, and in her hand the deceased was clutching a lock of women's hair.

Hot on the trail, detectives manage to detain Grube's lodger Zenta Lazda and it turns out that the girl's hair was identical to that found in the hand of the deceased woman, and the jewelry that had disappeared from Grube's apartment was found in the girl's purse.

During interrogation, the girl admitted that she had a conflict with the owner of the apartment, and she even hit her with a jar that was at hand, but Zenta categorically denied that she killed Grube and stole her valuables. Nevertheless, all the evidence was against her, and the investigator had no choice but to wait for the results of the examination and send the case to court.

However, the results of the examination that arrived were clearly in Zenta's favor, because it was established that Grube had first been drugged and then killed. In addition, the next day, the detectives discovered that someone had secretly entered Grube's sealed apartment, and it became clear that someone very clever and cunning was trying to put them on a false trail and was setting up Zenta as bait...
