Narrative:

The action of the film "The Spanish Version" takes place in 1936. After Hitler and his Nazi party came to power in Germany in 1933, tensions in the international situation began to mount.

In March 1936, Hitler, violating all international treaties, brought troops into the Rhine demilitarized zone, and now it became clear to many that a major war was just around the corner; it remained only to guess where Germany would strike next.

After the fiery speech in Danzig, many experts believed that Germany's next victim would be Poland or Czechoslovakia. However, contrary to these expectations, the war began not in the East, but in the West, namely in Spain, where Hitler supported Franco's military-nationalist dictatorship.

In this war, the Germans use their newest Messerschmitt aircraft for the first time, and it was extremely important for Soviet intelligence to obtain the plans for this aircraft. To accomplish this task, Operation Messerschmitt was developed, in which the main role was given to the British reporter of Latvian origin, Jan Palme.

Palme, on assignment from Soviet intelligence, managed to win the sympathy of the Third Reich's top officials with his laudatory articles about Hitler. Soviet intelligence officer Hagen, who worked under the guise of an active Gestapo officer, was sent to Spain to help Palme…
