Narrative:
Action of the film Diamonds for the dictatorship of the proletariat takes place in 1921 in Russia. Against the backdrop of a difficult economic situation, devastation caused by a grueling civil war in the young Soviet republic, an unprecedented famine broke out. The government of the republic is forced to turn to the governments of capitalist states for help, but they are ready to sell bread in Russia only for gold.
For this purpose, a special decree of the Council of People's Commissars established Gokhran, a state repository of valuables of the RSFSR, which was supposed to store and account for all valuables belonging to the republic: gold, platinum, silver, diamonds and other precious stones.
Gokhran became the most delicious morsel not only for criminals and inveterate enemies of the revolution – the White Guards, but also for the Gokhran employees themselves. A source close to the Estonian Ministry of Finance reported to the Cheka that an organization engaged in thefts from the state depository was operating in Russia.
And soon a certain Stopansky, an intelligence colonel from the Polish General Staff, turned to the Cheka: the situation he found himself in forced him to cooperate with Soviet intelligence. A significant amount of money in American currency was stolen from the experienced Polish intelligence officer, and he turned to the Cheka for help.
In exchange for this, Stopansky shared very important information for the Soviet detectives. According to the colonel, there was some kind of currency underground operating in Moscow, which had huge reserves of gold and diamonds, which the criminals illegally transported abroad.
But the most important thing that Stopansky reported was that one of the employees of the Soviet embassy in Tallinn worked for foreign intelligence. The colonel did not know which country's intelligence service the "mole" worked for, but he assumed that the agent was involved in the theft of diamonds from Gokhran.
And in order to find out this, a young Soviet intelligence officer, Vsevolod Vladimirovich Vladimirov, aka Maxim Maximovich Isaev, goes to Tallinn...
