Narrative:
1921. The young Soviet Republic, devastated by a debilitating civil war, is slowly rising from its knees. In order to revitalize the economy, Lenin's government was forced to depart from some of the basic norms of Marxism and introduce the NEP (New Economic Policy).
T h e essence of this new economic policy was private ownership of the means of production and the results of labor. And now the former bourgeois, the kulaks and other counter-revolutionary elements, who had managed to hide their capital during the civil war, came out of the shadows and went about their usual business.
The NEPmans, as they now called these new masters of life, lived too beautifully and too ostentatiously. All this could not but cause a storm of indignation among those who had shed blood on the fronts of the civil war, and now had to eke out a miserable existence....
