Narrative:
The action of the movie Tomorrow was war takes place in 1940 in the Soviet Union. The main character of the movie is Iskra Polyakova, a 9th grade student, an activist, a Komsomol member - class Komsorg. Iskra's mother is a responsible party worker, a participant of the revolution and civil war.
Iskra is surprised to learn that her best friend Zina's dream is not to be a pilot or a tractor driver, but only a woman. Iskra believes that for a true Komsomol woman, this is a very small scale. To think about beauty, love or one's own small female happiness is bourgeoisie, and a true Komsomol woman must sacrifice herself to the happiness of all.
Iskra sharply criticized her friend for her petty-bourgeois, bourgeois views incompatible with the high rank of a Komsomol member, but soon a series of events occurred that forced the indomitable Iskra to change her views somewhat. One day at the birthday party of her classmate Artem Shefer, her friend and classmate Vika Lyuberetskaya read poems by Esenin.
Iskra liked the poems very much, but when she found out who the author was, she was truly indignant, because Yesenin was considered to be a red-hot poet... The next day Iskra was summoned to the head teacher of the school, who was already aware of what the Komsomol members had been doing at a classmate's birthday party - reading decadent poems by a red-hot poet. But the head teacher was most outraged that Iskra, as class Komsomol leader, did not report such an emergency herself. Iskra realizes that Vika is in danger and hurries to warn her.

For example, about the presumption of innocence, that a person should not justify himself or prove his innocence, but the law enforcement agencies should prove his guilt, and even a sincere confession does not serve as proof of guilt, because a person can incriminate himself under pressure. Lyuberetsky's words make a very strong impression on Iskra, and she decides to publish a wall newspaper about the presumption of innocence at school.
But the mother in time noticed the draft of this wall newspaper and warned her daughter from a rash act, and soon Lyuberetsky was arrested. His daughter now faces disgrace. The head teacher pressures Vika to publicly renounce her father, but Vika is unwilling to do so.
Then the head teacher demands Iskra to urgently hold a Komsomol meeting to expel Lyuberetskaya from the Komsomol. But Vika did not come to the meeting; she committed suicide by taking a large dose of sleeping pills. Despite her mother's warnings, Iskra, together with her classmates and school director Romakhin, decides to hold her friend's funeral.
At Vicky's grave, she reads out her suicide letter. The organization of memorial services for the daughter of an enemy of the people did not bypass Romakhin, he was expelled from the party. And a few days later comes the news that Lyuberetsky released. Former classmates of Vicky, immediately rushed to console the unhappy father with hope for the future. Then they did not yet know what troubles the next 1941 would bring them all....
