Plot:

Action of the film American Boy takes place shortly before the collapse of the USSR. Nikolai Naidenov, performing international debt in Afghanistan, is captured, and after captivity fate brings him to the United States. Having married an American, Nikolai becomes a US citizen Nick Macken.

Here in America, the former orphan Naidenov felt happy over the years, he now had everything he could not dream of before: a wife, his own home, a good and highly paid job. Naidenov did not even think about returning to his homeland, because he associated it with an orphanage, the army, war and captivity. In addition, Nikolai was an orphan and had no relatives in the union. He even decided to change the surname Naidenov, which he was given in the orphanage, to the surname of his wife Macken, so that his future children would have their own pedigree.

Nikolai's only close person in the union was Sergei Gubanov, a comrade in arms from Afghanistan, and Nikolai decided to visit him. However, he was not able to find Gubanov alive. Gubanov's wife told Nikolai that Sergei was killed in the Zodiac restaurant, where he worked as a security guard.

Nikolai visits Zodiac and tries to find out how Sergei died, but the restaurant director advises him not to meddle in this matter and flatly refuses to talk about Gubanov. Having received a refusal, Nikolai decides to return home to America, because his wife is pregnant there, and the police should be looking for the killers. Before leaving, he decides to visit Gubanov's widow once more, but finds her dead.

This circumstance forced Naidenov to change his plans and accept the fight. Nikolai pays a second visit to "Zodiac", and, having neutralized the guards, forces the director to reveal the names of Sergei's killers. The director, frightened by this turn of events, reports that the powerful mafia brothers Gemini, who have imposed a tribute on the entire city, are behind Sergei's murder. Working as a security guard at "Zodiac", Gubanov brought the younger Gemini to heel, for which he was brutally beaten by his henchmen.

Having received the necessary information, Naydenov eliminates the killers of Tatyana Gubanova and the younger Twin. Enraged by the murder of his brother, the elder Twin sends his henchman nicknamed Moldavan to Mukhin, an honest operative whom the bandits nicknamed "Zhelezyaka" or watchdog. Moldavan conveyed to Mukhin the Twin's request to find his brother's killer and promised a generous reward.

But Mukhin sent the bandit envoy away and put him under surveillance. And Moldavan, without knowing it, led Mukhin straight to the Twin's lair at the old brewery. Here Mukhin witnessed an unequal battle in which Naidenov killed all of the Twin's henchmen, and then, in a fair hand-to-hand fight, the gang leader himself. When Naidenov stuck a shovel into the Twin's throat and fell exhausted to the floor, Mukhin came out of his ambush and detained him.

But after listening to Naidenov’s story, the principled and honest cop, who held the rank of senior lieutenant for his honesty and integrity, did not arrest Nikolai, and with the words: “I don’t give up my own,” let him go home…
