Plot:
The action of the film "Favorite" takes place in the late 80s of the last century. In the country of victorious socialism, perestroika is in full swing, the main achievements of which are democratization and glasnost. Soon, the next elections of people's deputies to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR were to take place in the USSR, and although the amendment to the constitution on the leading and guiding role of the Communist Party had not yet been formally canceled, it was no longer necessary to be a member of the party to become a deputy.
On the contrary, given that the party had already been heavily compromised by that time, voters' preference was on the side of independent candidates. However, the other side of the coin of such democratization was that now all sorts of mafia and criminal structures could nominate their candidates for deputies.
In one of the large industrial centers in the Urals, the leader of the election race is a worker at a machine-building plant, Dmitry Drozdov, nicknamed "Favorite". Despite the fact that Drozdov graduated from the institute, he still worked at the plant to help his sick mother, and such facts from his biography could not help but please the voters, who were mainly ordinary workers.
The political strategists who promoted Drozdov understood this, but Dmitry himself did not understand for a while how he was being manipulated and how he would have to earn his success in the future. The turning point came when Dmitry learned that his girlfriend, who was also a member of his election team, was sleeping with various important people on orders from her curators…
