Plot of the film Fan (1989):

Egor Larin, nicknamed "Baby", has been passionate about karate since childhood. The school where he studied had a section of this overseas and exotic art of self-defense. "Baby" trains hard and soon becomes one of the best fighters. The coach is going to send him to the All-Union Karate Championship, but the section is suddenly closed.

The coach advises Yegor not to give up sports, to go into boxing or wrestling, he should be able to do everything. But Yegor is fanatically devoted karate and trains independently. Soon, due to a quarrel with his mother, Egor leaves home and moves in with his section mate Grisha.

Together with Grisha, they continue to train, but Grisha needs to prepare for entering the institute, and he began to devote less and less time to training.

Disappointed in his comrade, Yegor leaves him and soon ends up in the army. In the army, "Little Boy" hones his skills, thanks to several old-timers who were also good karate fighters.

After the service, Yegor returns home and is going to go to work on a construction site, but Grisha dissuades "Baby" from doing so, because there is a demand for karatekas in the country now, and you can earn more in a day than in a month on a construction site.
